When he addressed the nation earlier today, President Obama reminded us that even in the bleakest times, hope comes in the form of ordinary heroes — emergency personnel, bomb squad members, first responders and hospital staff.

It’s the people who broke down the marathon barriers to assist the injured seconds after the bombs went off.

It’s the doctors who reportedly ran the marathon and then volunteered to help.

It’s the runners who reportedly ran all the way to hospitals to donate blood.

the heavy rains have gotten everything green quick, why even the center of the road is green on todays bicycle ride.

Imagine a future where a piece of cloth that you lay down and  spray some water on turns into a slab of concrete! This is the magic of ‘concrete canvas’ and it is about to change some basic rules of civil engineering.

Concrete canvas is a great innovation from engineering students Will Crawford and Peter Brewin, that feels like a normal canvas but put some water on it and it hardens in a few hours to give you a robust construction.  The cloth, impregnated with concrete,  is easy to transport and just needs water and some air to complete a construction. It doesn’t need heavy equipment, good working surfaces and is not labour intensive at all. You will need lots of water, which need can be sourced from a bore well or even the sea, an air blower (if the construction is big and you are in a hurry)  and some labour to put…

The Concrete Canvas Shelter is a large inflatable tent made from a unique and highly functional material. It’s made from a canvas-like fabric that’s flexible and lightweight. However, when water is added to the material, it hardens into concrete.

The tent was created by a U.K-based company, which was originally developed for military use and also in an event of a natural disaster where sturdy shelters need to be resurrected quickly.

In test conditions, the inflatable canvas shelter was able to be erected by two people without any training in under an hour. Once the concrete hardens, the building is ready to be used in 24 hours.

In tough circumstances, sometimes all you need is hope, but other times you need a blow-up survival shelter featuring a bed, a couch, freeze-dried food, a 50-gallon water bladder, a first-aid kit, a radio and a cookstove.

And the latter is exactly what the “Life Cube” from startup Inflatable World is designed to provide. Packaged into a four-foot-tall cube, it inflates into a 12-foot-tall structure built from the same thick plastic as a bouncy house.

Designed to provide shelter and basic amenities for people in the days and weeks after a disaster, the instant housing will come with a $3,900 price tag, so the company’s first market could be wealthy survivalists.
