Bullet Proof Vest Of A Police Officer-Is It Really Bullet Proof?
September 22, 2013
Samina's Forum for police support
“ to each there stands his own day;
to all the time of life is short and irretrievable;
but to extend one’s fame with deeds,
that is the task of valor”.
(Virgil, The Aeneid X. 467-9)
In an absolute atmosphere of insanity and pandemonium, emergence of a Police Officer is a symbol of ingenuity, valor, and self-sacrifice. It promises each unnerved and astonished person that calm will triumph and valid reasoning will guide everyone to safety and security.
When the Police Officer gets dressed for his duty. He takes a long hard look at his bullet-proof-vest. He is bound to see the vest at the spots where a bullet can hit and cause utmost harm. He knows that his bullet-proof-vest is not a 100% shield. At the back of his mind there is also this thought that the offender may not aim at the vest. With so many mixed feelings of…

Turandot – A Night At The Opera ( On A Budget )
September 20, 2013
Yesterday evening, I went to see Puccini’s exotic final Opera Turandot at Cineworld in Glasgow. It was a live performance from the Royal Opera House in London which was screened in 1000 cinemas worldwide ( Link ).
My ticket cost £10.25 and I can honestly say “it was good for my heart” as Ivan Hewett wrote on Friday in the Telegraph ( Link )
I received a printed programme with synopsis before the show and at the beginning of each act the themes of what was to happen next were explained. A great way to see your first opera. You don’t need to know anything about the plot they tell you in a relaxed cinema environment. People were clapping he he, it was a joy. I even got a free pen! And the dates of next viewings which will definitely be going into my calendar!
Here is a sneaky…

How to Get Photoshop JPG colour to match web page colour
September 20, 2013
What’s wrong with this picture ?
As I’m not a photographer, it’s taken me an age to get to the bottom of how to fix this. Photoshop has it’s own idea about colours, presumably something to do with the fact that I might want to get photos printed. For blogging and websites, mostly I just want screen accurate colours, so what I see in Photoshop, I also see on the web.
I made myself the new “Graffiti” writing header and wanted to blend it in with the rest of the header. There’s a few ways to get the colour into Photoshop, one could use ALT+PRINT SCREEN and paste the window’s contents into MSPaint. Or one could use the Snipping Tool. Or one could right click on the coloured part in Chrome and do an “Inspect Element”, giving the colour in the bottom right hand corner – mine is “#443b31”.

Ocean Cleanup Array vs 5Gyres : A Healthy Debate to Remove plastic from Oceans
September 20, 2013
Here comes the first part of the attempt by Boyan Slat and his plans to remove plastic waste from the oceans..
19-year-old Boyan Slat has unveiled plans to create an Ocean Cleanup Array that could remove 7,250,000 tons of plastic waste from the world’s oceans. The device consists of an anchored network of floating booms and processing platforms that could be dispatched to garbage patches around the world.
Instead of moving through the ocean, the array would span the radius of a garbage patch, acting as a giant funnel. The angle of the booms would force plastic in the direction of the platforms, where it would be separated from plankton, filtered and stored for recycling.
At school, Boyan Slat launched a project that analyzed the size and amount of plastic particles in the ocean’s garbage patches. His final paper went on to win several prizes, including Best Technical Design 2012 at…
