Straight Outta Compton definitely lives up to the hype.  For the first time I actually see Hip Hop in a different light, I even think I might understand it a little.  I never cared for it, sharing the opinion of many, that it’s just gangster rap with a lot of cursing, disrespect for women and Ebonics that no one could understand except the rappers.  This still might be the case with a lot of rap but there’s so much more behind the words and the beats that’s worth exploring and understanding.  Plus, one rap doesn’t fit all.  Straight Outta Compton starts out in 1986 in a ghetto called Compton, located in Los Angeles, California that is equal to the old Watts neighborhood most of us have heard of.  Crime, drugs, poverty, hopelessness, danger, murder and a bad place to be, let alone live.  To emerge from Compton alive, clean…

I just love it when a guy I like starts acting all different. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m talking about when he is playing those mean games…you know…he really doesn’t mean it but wants to get a reaction out of you…

Liking boys is not part of the problem, on the contrary, the problem only gets to be there when he thinks he can get away with being mean.

As per my current knowledge on making a selfish guy suffer, I proudly know that I can give advice.

It was “easy” for Christopher O’Kroley to kill Caroline Nosal, his coworker at a Madison, Wisconsin, grocery store and the object of his unrequited affection. He said so himself earlier this month, when he was arrested for fatally shooting Nosal because she rejected his romantic advances. He reportedly “wanted more” from their relationship and she turned him down. 

So he killed her.

Doing so was easy not just because O’Kroley was able to get a gun quickly and legally and learn how to use it, but also because this happens all the time. Fifty Shades of Grey is definitely not about what I thought it was about. After hearing about the book, I thought I was in for two hours of pure, unadulterated, uninterrupted sex like I had never seen before. To my surprise, it was bordering on a sick man’s love story, starring Anastasia “Ana” Steele, a twenty-one-year-old  (Dakota Johnson) babe in unexplored territory. I would imagine by now, everyone has read the book or seen the movie or both. I had done neither until the movie got an Oscar nod — and not even a major one. I’m so glad I did see it so that I’m in the loop. I really don’t get what the brouhaha was all about. I don’t want to give away anything to those of you who haven’t seen it but REALLY? I’m not sure Fifty Shades of Grey deserved the R rating it received. Then…

Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom, is a very hard documentary to watch.  You have to be able to stomach seeing innocent people being beaten up, murdered in cold blood, abused and treated like animals.  When I hear people complaining about the US, I wonder if they have watched any footage of some other countries and how the government treats their own people?  One thing about documentaries, it’s reality, not script.  This film documents a wave of demonstrations and civil unrest in Ukraine, which began on the night of November 21, 2013 with public protests in Maidan Nezalezhnosti (“Independence Square”) in Kiev, demanding closer European integration and many calls for the resignation of President Vikto Yanukovych and his government.  The protests led to the 2014 Ukrainian revolution.  Many protesters joined because of the violent dispersal of protesters on November 30th and “a will to change life in Ukraine.” By…

INT. KITCHEN – EARLY MORNING

       Mother and daughter are standing by the counter, making a cake. There is a generous amount of flour sprinkled across the counter, on the floor, in the daughter’s hair. The phone rings just as they place the cake into the oven.

Looks pretty, doesn’t it?

MOTHER

The daughter ignores the mother’s request to take the phone and proceeds to run laps around the house, arms extended like an airplane. Mother continues to talk on the phone until the timer for the cake goes off. Simultaneously, the daughter comes out of the bathroom with her pants around her ankles.

DAUGHTER (bending over)

I pooped mommy, see?

The mother visibly hesitates between the call of the timer and the white tush jutting out before her. The poopy bum wins.

OMG!  I hated this movie.  Why oh why does everyone love it?  I can’t understand what all the brouhaha is all about.  I couldn’t wait to see Deadpool, given all the hype.  Okay, I’ll admit, I’m not a comic book person but I absolutely love most of the comic book action hero movies.  The only one I didn’t like before now is Fantastic Four.  I think that qualifies me as an honorary Action Hero, Comic Book, Club Member.  From everything I’ve heard, Deadpool is not for children and was given an R rating.  I thought, fine, this is really going to be good.  NOT!!  I didn’t find Mr. Pool’s, (Ryan Reynolds) cocky attitude and corny jokes funny nor entertaining.  His whole dialogue got on my nerves so badly, I just wanted the movie to be over so I could leave.  I kept hoping it would get better, but it…

Amy Winehouse, a dynamic song writer and jazz and pop singer, found dead from alcohol poisoning at the age of 27, is documented in this sad but clear story of her brief life and career. I’ve formed a strong and definite opinion of Amy’s life and reasons for her early demise. “Amy” was quite painful to watch, especially after reading that her father (Mitch Winehouse) was protesting the film because he felt it made him look bad and also, at times, showed Amy in a bad light. I found his words hard to believe. In the documentary, her mother admitted she was unable to handle Amy with a simple no when needed. The film brilliantly showed times when Amy acted up as a small child, needing guidance and discipline and her mother (Janis Winehouse) giving up and giving in to Amy’s pressure tactics.
