James' World 2

Prospect is a science fiction film written and directed by Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell.  It features a teenage girl and her father traveling to an alien moon with a contract to mine gems in the moon’s poisonous forest.  I really love science fiction and wondered if this film would be worth watching.  I can say it was quite interesting.

A teenage girl named Cee (Sophie Thatcher) and her father Damon (Jay Duplass) have descended in a landing pod from their spaceship to the surface of a forest moon covered in poisonous spores.  The two are on a mission to mine for rare, expensive gems. They suffer a technical malfunction while descending, which damages their landing pod causing them to touch down some distance away from their planned prospecting site. Lovecraft Country is a television series developed by Misha Green based on the continuation of the 2016 novel of the same name by Matt Ruff. The series is produced by Monkeypaw Productions, Bad Robot Productions, and Warner Bros. Television Studios and is considered a horror drama. I love how this series educates folks about the Black plight; despite the “crazy” that’s going on, it never loses the original focus.

Lovecraft Country follows a Black man named Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors), a Korean war veteran, as he joins up with his friend Letitia “Leti” Lewis (Jurnee Smollett) and his Uncle George Freeman (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across Jim Crow America in search of his missing father Montrose Freeman (Michael K. Williams). Project Power is a superhero film directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, produced by Eric Newman and Bryan Unkeless, and written by Mattson Tomlin. The film follows a drug dealer, a police officer, and a former soldier who team up to stop the distribution of a pill that gives the taker superpowers for five minutes. An intriguing prospect that I found quite entertaining. I enjoyed Project Power and thought the movie was well done.

Da 5 Bloods is a war drama directed, produced, and co-written by Spike Lee. The movie was originally written by Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo in 2013, the script was re-worked by Lee and Kevin Willmott following the pair’s successful collaboration in BlacKkKlansman (2018). The film’s plot follows a group of four aging Vietnam War veterans who return to the country in search of the remains of their fallen squad leader, as well as the treasure they buried while serving there.  Da 5 Bloods is Chadwick Boseman’s last movie before his untimely demise in 2020. When I first heard of this movie, I was hell-bent on seeing it because of Chadwick Boseman, which was emotional and suspenseful.
