You may not have heard about MEMS — microelectromechanical systems — before; it’s not a particularly sexy or flashy technology, especially compared to some of the jaw-dropping devices and products that debuted at last week’s CES. But if tech is a part of your life, you encounter these micro-machines far more often than you’re likely aware. In fact, MEMS are the unsung heroes of many of our favorite and beloved technologies: Most smartphones, tablets, fitness tracking devices, wearables, game consoles, smart home products and virtual reality technologies incorporate MEMS in some capacity.
