There was a book called “Gonnif” (which is a Yiddish phrase meaning “thief”) that was published in the 70’s. The author is a reformed cat burglar. He pretty much wrote the same details as the below article. He also said that leaving a bathroom light on all night keeps the bad guys away…because they never know when you might be wide awake and using the bathroom…so they’ll pass your home and go to a dark home to break into.
